General Information

Reservations

Reservations are required for all passengers, whether walking on or in a vehicle. Full fare is charged at the time of booking and may be paid using Visa, Mastercard, American Express or Visa debit.

Check-In

Reservation holders, all vehicles, and all freight must check in at the ticket booth a minimum of one hour prior to sail time.

Booking Amendments

Amendments to reservations which impact the fare will incur a credit card transaction fee of $3.00 each time such an amendment is made. Ex: no fee is applied when exchanging an SUV for a small car, as the fare does not change, whereas adding or removing a trailer from a booking incurs a fee as the fare does change.

Cancellations

Customer Cancellations – A full refund is applied to every reservation that is cancelled prior to a minimum of 120 hours (5 days) prior to sailing.  Reservations made less than 5 days from sailing have until the end of the day to cancel on the day that the reservation was made.  

Crossing Times

Leamington and Kingsville to Pelee Island: approximately 1 hour 30 mins.

Sandusky, OH to Pelee Island: approximately 1 hour 45 mins.

Security

All passengers must vacate the vehicle deck during passage. Vehicles are loaded and unloaded at the owner’s risk. The owner/operator of the vessel assumes no responsibility for the contents of any vehicle, or for the security of, or damage caused to or by vehicles, motorcycles, or bicycles while aboard the ship.

Passengers Crossing International Borders

Non-Canadians require a passport when entering Canada via Pelee Island. Likewise non-Americans travelling through to Sandusky, OH will require a passport.

Random Screening

International travellers may be subject to random screening of their baggage and/or vehicles, as per security regulations.

Accessibility

Elevator service is available aboard the Jiimaan, but unavailable aboard the Pelee Islander and Pelee Islander II. Please advise the ticket agent upon arrival if elevator service is required.

Manual wheelchairs are available at all terminals and aboard all vessels. Please ask staff for assistance.

Barrier free washrooms are available at the Kingsville and Leamington terminals as well as aboard the Jiimaan. The Pelee Islander and Pelee Islander II are equipped with accessible washrooms.

Pets

Pets may remain inside the vehicle during transit, or within designated areas of the outside decks provided they are leashed and under the control of their owner.

Fuel Regulations

Passengers must declare additional fuel containers upon arrival at the dock. Transport Canada regulations prohibit transporting fuels in excess of the following quantities:

Propane – Recreational Vehicles

No more than two propane cylinders up to 25 litres each, safely secured in an upright position with valves closed, and tagged by OSTC staff.

Propane – Built in Propane Tanks

The tank must be original equipment manufactured (OEM), and engineered for the vehicle.

Gasoline – Automobiles

No more than two portable containers of up to 25 litres each.

Gasoline – Motorboats

No more than two portable containers of up to 25 litres each.

Accepted Forms of Payment

Visa, Mastercard, American Express and Visa debit can be used online, over the phone, and on site. Cash and debit may be used for on site transactions.

Frequent Sailor Cards

Frequent Sailor Discount is intended for the sole use of the named applicant and immediate family (same household). Forms are available upon request & online (see link below) and must be returned by email or in person at Leamington Terminal or Pelee Island Terminal. Once form is submitted and approved by PITS management a discount code will be applied to customer account and a 15% discount will be applied to all reservations on the account.
