Plan Your Travel Ahead
We’re pleased to welcome pets aboard all of our ferry services. To ensure a safe and comfortable crossing for your pet, plan ahead by reviewing our guidelines for seamless pet-friendly ferry travel. Please note that for all ferry services, pets are required to be leashed or travel in TSA-approved pet carriers, accompanied by their owners in pet-designated areas. Owners are responsible for their pets’ behaviour and liability is assumed by the owner should the animal injure another passenger or animal.
- MS Chi-Cheemaun
- At the Terminal: Designated pet relief areas are available at both the Tobermory and South Baymouth ferry terminals. Please note that pets are not permitted in the terminal buildings.
- On the Ferry: Pets are welcome onboard the MS Chi-Cheemaun in the aft lounge and the outside decks; please ask a crew member for directions. We do not recommend leaving your pet in your vehicle, as owners cannot return to the car deck to check on them. Car deck temperatures can get extreme in warmer conditions and put your pet at risk. In the event of an emergency evacuation, uncrated pets will not be permitted down the emergency slide.
- Pelee Island Ferries
- At the Terminal: Pets that are leashed and under control of their owner are permitted in the ferry terminals for short periods.
- On the Ferry: Pets may remain inside the vehicle during transit or the outside decks provided they are leashed and under the control of their owner. Pets are welcome on all outside decks on both the MV Pelee Islander and the MV Pelee Islander II. The MV Pelee Islander II has a designated area for pets located on the top deck. If you choose to leave your pet in your vehicle, be advised that no one is allowed on the vehicle deck when the ship is sailing, and your pet will be unattended for approximately two hours. Pets are permitted in indoor lounges (excluding the cafeteria) if they remain in a TSA-approved carrier or crate for the duration of the sailing.
- MV Niska I
On the Ferry: The MV Niska 1 is an open-deck vessel, and pets are welcome on the ferry. Pets must remain under the control of their handlers at all times during travel, and must be leashed or else travel in a TSA-approved carrier or crate.
Service Animals
We welcome service animals in all areas open to the public, including onboard vessels and in terminal buildings.
- A service animal is an animal that has been individually trained to do work or perform tasks for a person with a disability.
- Service animals are often identified by a harness, vest, or the way they assist a person. If it is not clear that an animal is a service animal, our staff may ask questions to understand how the animal supports a disability.Service animals must always remain under the control of the passenger. This means the animal should be harnessed, leashed, or otherwise properly controlled during travel.
