The Pelee Island Transportation Services (OSTC) is looking for a FULL-TIME CAPTAIN for the Pelee Island II ferry.

Hours per week: 40 hours/week (with potential for overtime; position requires weekend work)
Pay Range: $19.16-$21.29
The Dockhand is responsible to and reports directly to the Terminal Supervisor.
The Dockhand will work according to his/her designated shift. Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Marshaling vehicles in loading and standby zones as instructed by the Ticket Agent.
Securing and casting off the vessel as directed.
Engaging/disengaging the passenger ramp and raising/lowering the vehicle transfer bridge as directed.
Maintaining safe and clean access to and from the vessel for passengers and vehicles.
Maintaining general hygiene of the terminal building and property.
Assisting and directing passengers during loading and unloading to ensure their safety, with special attention being paid to those individuals who may require extra assistance.
Performing Emergency Response Plan duties when required.
Maintaining strict compliance with all safety regulations regarding procedures and equipment as outlined in company policies and procedures.
General maintenance tasks to the terminal and grounds.
Qualifications and Experience
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to work under pressure
Ability to provide exceptional customer experience and efficiently address customer concerns to resolve complex issues.
Ability to work in a team environment.

The Ticket Agent is responsible to and reports directly to the Terminal Supervisor.
The Ticket Agent will work according to his/her designated shift. Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Opening and closing all terminal buildings and booths, and arming/disarming security systems.
Using the POS systems to sell tickets and enter/check reservations.
Recording ticket sales on the computer and maintaining a cash float.
Organizing vehicles into appropriate order for loading onto the ferry.
Providing frontline customer service and giving accurate information about the sailing schedule.
Responding professionally to passenger inquiries.
Supervising dockworkers.
Providing the ferry with regular updates on visibility and current weather conditions.
Ensuring that the Canadian Transportation of Dangerous Goods Act and Regulations are followed before goods are loaded on the vessel.
Using public address announcements to direct passengers as appropriate and to enforce the requirements for carrying dangerous goods.
Ensuring that the passenger count does not exceed the maximum capacity of the ferry.
Following and enforcing all safety requirements required by the company.
Qualifications and Experience
Experience handling cash and balancing cash reports an asset.
Experience working in a customer service environment.
Experience using computers. Experience with POS systems an asset.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to work under pressure
Ability to provide exceptional customer experience and efficiently address customer concerns to resolve complex issues.
Ability to work in a team environment.
Punctual and detail oriented.

The Stockperson/Dockhand is responsible to and reports directly to the Terminal Supervisor.
The Stockperson/Dockhand work according to his/her designated shift. Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Receiving and unloading stores and supplies for the vessel and terminal. This may include picking up supplies from local companies.
Receiving orders to be filled from Stewards, Deck and Engine Room departments and delivering all necessary supplies to the vessel.
Maintaining an inventory and assuming control of all stock and supplies that are kept at the warehouse for the terminal and vessel.
Ensuring propane tanks are kept full for forklift operation.
Maintaining general hygiene of the warehouses including collection and transportation of garbage from the docks, terminal and ship to the landfill site.
Collecting and delivering mail to and from the post office and terminal or vessel.
Assisting with marshaling vehicles in loading and standby zones as needed.
Securing and casting off the vessel as directed.
Engaging/disengaging the passenger ramp and raising/lowering the vehicle transfer bridge as directed.
Maintaining strict compliance with all safety regulations regarding procedures and equipment as outlined in company policies and procedures.
Other Dockhand duties as assigned by the Ticket Agent.
Qualifications and Experience
Valid driver’s license.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
