Discover Manitoulin Island

Mnidoo Mnising, the world’s largest freshwater island, has long been held sacred by the Anishinaabe people. With towering cliffs, vast wilderness, gorgeous inland lakes, and abundant wildlife, Manitoulin remains sacred to this day – to residents and visitors alike.

Outdoor Adventure

Absolutely covered with beautiful trails, Manitoulin is a hiker’s paradise. The Niagara Escarpment runs from shore to shore offering dramatic views across the island and into Northern Ontario. Leave nothing but footprints, take nothing but photographs, and keep the island beautiful for your next visit.

Pristine Water

If you’re drawn to the water Manitoulin offers a mind boggling array of options. From shoreline fishing to salmon downrigging, intimate sunrise paddles to ambitious cruises, long sand beaches to gorgeous waterfalls. With its inland lakes, miles of shoreline, and easy access to the storied North Channel, Manitoulin is a world class destination for boating, fishing, and swimming.

Thriving Culture

Manitoulin enjoys a vibrant cultural life in large part due to its many First Nations communities who proudly honour their traditions in song, story and dance at events throughout the year. In addition there are museums, art galleries, and historical monuments all across the island. Look for the S.S. Norisle, predecessor to the Chi-Cheemaun, along the shore in Manitowaning.
