Owen Sound Transportation Company is pleased to announce there will be no automatic annual fare increase for the M/S Chi-Cheemaun passenger/vehicle ferry at the opening of the 2009 season on Friday, May 1st. OSTC offers the same level of ferry service as enjoyed over the last 35 years, with two round trips per day (three on Fridays and Holiday Mondays) during the spring and fall, and four round trips per day during the summer.
OSTC will monitor traffic levels and fuel prices throughout the season. Lower than expected traffic levels and/or a significant increase in fuel prices may require the company to implement an “in-service” fare increase during the sailing season.
Ferry customers can save money, and save the environment. OSTC has reduced operating costs and exhaust emissions by restricting ferry fuel consumption to the minimum required to perform the scheduled service. The company offers our ferry customers the same opportunity to save money and the environment by extending a 10% discount to small, fuel efficient vehicles. A complete list of eligible vehicle models is available on our website at www.ontarioferries.com.
How much fuel are you burning to “drive around” instead of taking the ferry? Have you done a carbon emission calculation? Coming soon to the OSTC website: a carbon emission comparison between driving around Georgian Bay and, taking the ferry.
